ABERDEEN PRESS & JOURNAL, 1 NOVEMBER 2007:

Crime novelist Lance Black

AMBITION: Lance Black wants to make his book into a movie.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, DIRECT ACTION FOR MOVIE MAN LANCE
Author jets off to Hollywood

AN ABERDEEN writer is jetting off to Hollywood in a bid to turn his Granite City-set novel into a movie.
Lance Black, 38, from the city’s West End, had his first novel published eight weeks ago.
Direct Action is a crime thriller, with much of the action taking place at North-east locations.
The front cover carries a picture of Wellington Bridge in Ferryhill, one of the settings from the story.“
The book was born out o fmy experiences of anti-social behaviour,” said, Lance who has several law qualifications.
“Road rage, possession of dangerous dogs, drugs and alcohol abuse, boy-racers and violence against the person – all these must be removed from society.
“I was a victim five years ago while on my way home from a restaurant.
“I was waiting at traffic lights with my girlfriend when four men launched an attack on my car.
“They were beating on the doors, being abusive and trying to goad me into a fight.
“We had to wait for the lights to turn green before we could get away.
The book tells the story of a violent murder, carried out in Aberdeen.
Around 1,000 people have snapped up the title since it was published.
Lance is currently preparing to fly to California with a screenplay version of the story.
“I have a well-connected friend in America who believes we can sell the story on to a film company,” Lance said.
“It has high finance, oil billionaires, fashion, social philosophy, conspiracy theories, secret societies and jet-set, exotic lifestyles.
“And all set in atmospheric locations in the North-east – it has everything.
